i do a lot of barra fishing in the river that runs straight through the middle of townsville city using a light bream stick and small soft plastic lures, i find it easier rather than using a short heavier stick because when you bring the barra in close its easier to keep them from diving into rocks and snags that are normally at your feet when fishing from the bank but the jetty near victoria bridge at high tide fishes very well for barra and is pretty deep i recomend that you try this place out as it is alot easier to land fish coming out of deeper water rather than shallow i find.
