Townsville generally has a good number of small ‘limited access’ ramps into the majority of estuarine systems. However, finding the locations of these ramps can be a challenge. Access can be heavily tidal dependant and suited mainly to small ‘tinnies’. But this varies from ramp to ramp. Additional facilities are lacking in most locations. Few of the sites have wash down facilities or cleaning tables. Only a couple have toilets and even fewer have any form of security. Vehicle damage and break-ins are common at most of the more isolated ramps. The Coast Guard ramp on Ross Creek is really Townsville’s only ‘all tide’ ramp suitable for larger vessels. Here parking is limited and the facility is sub-standard catering poorly to Townsville’s population. It has been suggested that this ramp be designated for larger boats only.
Please use the following pages that contain descriptions and photographs to help decide if a ramp is suitable for your size and type of boat. Ramps that are difficult to find also contain maps and directions. Some even have video footage to show the quality of the road in.
